The Good, the Bad, and the Duke:The Cavensham Heiresses #4- Janna MacGregor

The Good, the Bad, and the Duke (The Cavensham Heiresses #4)

A lady with a noble mission. A duke looking for redemption. A forbidden love that cannot be denied…

Lady Daphne Hallworth is ready to celebrate the holidays with her family. But when they accidentally leave her home alone, Daphne uses the time to work on her dream—opening a home for unwed mothers. But her quest isn’t problem-free: She’s in a battle to win the property for the home against her brother’s best friend-turned-enemy, Paul Barstowe, Duke of Southart. And that’s not all: someone has stolen her personal diary, which holds secrets that could devastate her family. Daphne has always harbored private feelings for the man her family scorns…though perhaps striking a bargain with the handsome Duke will solve both their problems?

Paul, long considered good for nothing, aims to open a hospital to honor his brother and restore his reputation. So when a conflict over the land brings him straight into Daphne’s life, they make a deal: He will help her find her diary if Daphne can change her family’s opinion of him. But before he can win her family’s affection, he has to win hers first. Maybe love was the answer to their family feud all along?

My Take:

This is, simply put, a really great read. Daphne is known as a Spinster but is able to find true love in the unlikely Paul. Janna MacGregor does a great job making you like each character even with all their flaws and root for them to find the ending they deserve. Great job.

I'm back

Good afternoon all,

I want to apologize for being gone so long. These last several months have been very difficult to say the very least. Losing my husband has by far been the hardest thing that has ever happened to me.

I appreciate each of you being so very patient with me while I got back into my groove. I know that Jeff would want me back on here reviewing away. So, I'm back and will be reviewing my hinny toukus off.

Thanks again,
Jenni

Deadly Partnership by Richard Gardner

Deadly Partnership: Murder, Blackmail and Voices from the Spirit World

On his retirement, widower Paul Jenkins decides to live with his sister by the sea. But having moved in, the idyllic life that he has been hankering after is thrown into turmoil when he comes face to face with a burglar in the middle of the night.

His impulsive reaction to the intrusion has disturbing consequences when he is confronted with some unsavoury characters. However, it is the dead that he has far more to fear from.

My Take:

I really liked this book. It gave you a little bit of everything that you are looking for in a good book, romance, mystery and a great main character. I found that I just couldn't put it down once I started reading it.

A Fatal Twist(Downward Dog Mystery #4) by Tracy Weber

A Fatal Twist (Downward Dog Mystery, #4)

Yoga instructor Kate Davidson’s life takes a chaotic turn once she agrees to not only be the doula for her pregnant best friend, but also play foster mother to two puppies. The chaos only gets worse when Kate finds the dead body of a philandering fertility doctor and Rachel, one of her yoga students, fleeing the scene.

Kate is convinced her student is innocent, and she sets out to find the real killer before her testimony condemns Rachel to a life behind bars. But her hands are full with caring for three dogs, teaching yoga classes, and gaining an unexpected crime-solving partner. If she’s not careful, Kate’s next yoga pose may be a fatal one.

My Take:

You cannot go wrong when you read a book from Tracy Weber. This book does not disappoint. Kate is never afraid to add more to never ending list of things to do. This Yoga instructor is now training to be a Doula for a friend, saving puppies and solving crimes in her spare time. This is a fun filled ride to the very end .

Cremains of the Day(A Tallie Graver Mystery #1) by Misty Simon

Cremains of the Day (A Tallie Graver Mystery #1)

There's no reverse on the hearse . . .

For Tallulah Graver, marrying wealthy Waldo Phillips seemed like the best way out of the family business, the Graver Funeral Home. But when her marriage falls apart and Tallie is left with next to nothing, she turns to cleaning houses to make ends meet. As humbling as it is to tidy the mansions of the snobby socialites she used to call friends, at least she doesn't have to be around dead bodies. Until . . .
She discovers one of her employers lying in a closet with a knife sticking out of her chest. This unpleasant shock seems to be part of a web of weird experiences: Tallie's friend Gina's shop is broken into, her ex is stun-gunned where it hurts the most, and now she's receiving flowers from the dead woman. Granted the deliveryman is handsome, but seriously, that's enough to cast a pall over anyone's day. Now Tallie needs to dig deep to clean up this mess--before she finds herself in a grave situation.

My Take:

What a great read. This is the first book in a new series and if this book is any indication there will be many more to come. Once I started reading, I just couldn't stop. The characters are great and the story is fantastic. Don't miss out on this one.
